One of the most enduring Dragon-based tales is of course the battle between St George and The Dragon, indeed it's St George who is the patron saint of England (the country where I was born in and still live).
My take on this prime piece of mythology was to have a 'Georgia' rather than a George. Not to 'replace' George in any way - more like a family legacy born from the legend, with the inevitable continuation of conflict between these apparently opposing forces...
I say 'apparently opposing forces', as in my picture I wanted the idea of mutual respect, and a strong connection, amongst predestined enemies...both poised for the killing strike, but both unwilling to make it.
Maybe they'll share battle against a greater enemy, joining together on the same side, for the greater good? But you can look at it however you like - it's fun to let your imagination create your own story!
Picture Creation Basics...
As per usual, background first using a combination of black and purple Bombay inks to give the textured effect, and create the contrast with the fiery reds, oranges and yellows yet to come...
I used white and red inks to bring out Georgia, her hair, and parts of the dragon, with everything else being a combination of watercolour alongside my trusty coloured and B-graded pencils...
The colour pencils being especially apparent throughout the dragon's scales and spines...
So there you have it - if you like the idea of enjoying the respectful tension between St Georgia and her Dragon, you can now order a print to adorn your wall! :)
It's available in my store right now (with a new-release discount), in a variety of sizes, with or without frames...
