I'm a bit behind schedule with this month's zodiacal dragon release! Still, there's 2 weeks left to bathe in the clean, bright aura of the sign of Virgo...
I designed this somewhat majestic dragon to project a calming, protective force over the mythical lands you see to the right of the picture - maintaining its balance as a clean and pure little haven, with the sun rising during first dawn.
As I usually tend to do, the picture begins with mixing watercolours for the background, and for Virgo I also used watercolours for the dragon's wings as well.
For the body of the dragon, it's my ever faithful collection of coloured and B-grade pencils, allowing me to provide plenty of detail in the scales, body, head and wing supports. With Virgo being an earth sign, I wanted to keep things bright and light for this star sign, as well as using plenty of greens.
This earthen feel extends to adding those clean and fresh-looking green leaves to help reflect the purity of nature - again, because it's Virgo we're dealing with here. The monument carrying virgo's sign is coloured using orangey browns to provide a warm contrast.
So overall, I went for a light, bright style, using my usual mixture of materials, based around some of the properties this Virgoan astrological sign holds close to it.
I hope you like 'Dragons of Astrologica - Virgo'...and if you really like this original dragon art, you can now buy it in the store ;) Like all my gradually-ready-to-order dragons, this zodiacal Virgo dragon is now available in various sized prints with options of mounts and frames...
